Update from the Flag Conservation Lab

Our conservation specialists, May Oyler and Cambray Sampson, continue to conduct very important conservation work on the regimental battle flag of the 15th Michigan Infantry, in the “back area” of the conservation lab. All of the 1960’s netting has been carefully removed from the flag and they are in the process of encapsulation.

Battle Flag Storage Tours

Requests to view the battle flag collection continue to be honored by our staff, including a visit from the soldiers of the 1225th Michigan Army National Guard, and faculty staff and students from Lansing Community College.

Save the Flags - Michigan History Museum Exhibit

Another flag (7th Michigan Infantry) has been shifted into the public viewing space/window at the State Historical Center flag archival storage unit.

The Karmann's Flag Adoption

Ed and Linda Karmann adopted a flag of the 14th Michigan Volunteer Infantry Regiment at an evening ceremony on April, 22--many thanks to the Karmanns for their generosity.

Kansas' Flag Conservation Program

The Kansas Save the Flags Project – Watkins Museum of History — Save the Flags was contacted by the state of Kansas seeking advice on establishing a similar program in Kansas to care for and conserve their collection of around 60 Civil War Battle flags.

Michigan at Gettysburg

Our Save The Flags archives/library was the proud recipient of an original copy of the 1889 book Michigan at Gettysburg—many thanks to donor Mr. Bruce Miller.

Save the Flags Film Premier

Planning has begun for the film premier of the Save the Flags documentary that has been in production for the past couple of years. The event will take place on Saturday, December 6th,2025, with a 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. showing. Due to limited space, attendance will be by invitation and RSVP, so if you would like to attend one of the showings, please contact us.
